In the first round of the Novotel Perrier Open Alberto Binaghi finished with a one-shot lead for his best
round this year. Binaghi had seven birdies and 11 single putts to finish with a 6-under-par 66. Fernando
Roca and Francesco Cea tied for second place at 6-under-par 66. One-stroke back was Stephen Allan,
Peter O'Malley, Jarmo Sandelin, Soren Hansen, and local hero Jean Van de Velde at 4-under-par 68s.

The second round ended in a three-way tie for first between Anders Hansen, Fernando Roca, and Jarmo
Sandelin. The trio was tied at 9-under-par 135 after being part of the 78 players out of 150 to complete
the second round due to a thunder storm. A stroke behind were Jonathan Lomas, who had Friday's best
round with a 64, and Michael Campbell with 136s. Campbell, returning from taking an eight-week break
after winning three tournaments in a four-week period, had one bogey and seven birdies for a 66. Two
strokes off the lead were Rodger Davis, Andrew Coltart, and Joakim Haeggman with 7-under-par 137s.

In Saturday's round the weather continued to be a concern. Miguel Angel Martin and others stopped
playing after hearing thunder. Colin Montgomerie, after play was postponed for one hour, moved in to
the lead after shooting a 35 for a three-round total of 12-under-par 204. Montgomerie is one-stroke
ahead of Jonathan Lomas and Michael Campbell who are tied for second with 69s. One of the second-
round leaders, Fernando Roca, and Andrew Coltart and Rodger Davis are all tied at 9-under-par 207s.

The final round went to Colin Montgomerie who shot a 4-under-par 68 for a final score of 16-under-par
272 and the win. Montgomerie had a two-stroke victory over Jonathan Lomas with two eagles on the
back nine. Montgomerie won $160,000 and his first title this season. This was his 23rd victory on the
European Tour. Jonathan Lomas shot a 69 in the final round for second place and a total of 14-under-
par 274. Third place went to Rodger Davis who shot a 70 for an 11-under-par 277. Jarmo Sandelin, who
was part of a three-way tie for first in the second round, was disqualified in the final round. Sandelin
bogeyed on the ninth hole then bent his putter across his knee to receive the disqualification.
