| Captain James Cook, the first European explorer in Hawaii, landed at Kauai's Waimea Bay on the 18th of January, 1778. His landfall was followed by several days of trading for supplies until night | winds blew his ship to Niihau. February 2, 1778, he sailed to the Pacific Northwest. He introduced European flora and fauna to the island including goats, pigs, melons, onions and pumpkins. | ||||||||||||
