In the first round of the 2002 Masters Tournament Davis Love III took a one stroke lead by shooting
a 5-under-par 67. Love shot a bogey free round with five birdies for his best opening round ever in the
tournament. Angel Cabrera and Sergio Garcia shared second place with 4-under-par 68s. Garcia could
have shared the lead after shooting birdies on the 15th, 16th and 17th holes but he bogeyed the 18th
to drop back. Finishing in fourth place were Retief Goosen, Padraig Harrington and Phil Mickelson with
3-under-par 69s. Goosen shot seven birdies and a double bogey in his round while Harrington shot six
birdies over his first 12 holes followed by three bogeys over his final six holes. Darren Clarke, Chris
DiMarco, Ernie Els, Miguel Jimenez, Justin Leonard, Jose Maria Olazabal, Jesper Parnevik, Nick Price,
Vijay Singh, Scott Verplank and Tiger Woods shared seventh place with 2-under-par 70s three strokes
off the lead. Woods, who was trying to defend his title, shot three early birdies to take the lead but lost
it after shooting over the greens on the 6th and 10th holes.

In Friday's second round Vijay Singh took the lead by shooting a 65 for a 9-under-par 135 total. Singh,
the 2000 tournament winner, shot a bogey free round of five birdies and an eagle on the 15th. Retief
Goosen took second place one stroke back after a 67 for an 8-under-par 136 total. Finishing in third
place was Ernie Els with a 137 while Angel Cabrera, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal, Sergio
Garcia and Tiger Woods shared fourth place two strokes back. Garcia made the turn at 5-under but
followed with bogeys on the 11th, 13th and 16th holes to fall back with a 71 and settle for his spot
in fourth place. Ninth place was shared by Thomas Bjorn, Miguel A. Jimenez, Phil Mickelson and Chris
DiMarco with 3-under-par 141s six strokes off the lead.

In the third round on Saturday Reteif Goosen shot a 70 and Tiger Woods a 66 to share the lead with
11-under-par 205 totals. Goosen could have held the lead outright but a bogey on the 18th dropped
him back while Woods shot seven birdies over his round to put himself in good position to defend his
title. Vijay Singh, the second round leader, took third place after shooting two bogeys over his final four
holes for a 72. Fourth place was shared by Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia and Phil Mickelson with 7-under-par
209s. Jose Maria Olazabal took seventh place with a third round 71 for a 6-under-par 210 total. Eighth
place was shared by Thomas Bjorn and Padraig Harrington with 5-under-par 211s while Angel Cabrera
finished one stroke back in tenth.

In the final round Tiger Woods earned his second consecutive Masters title by shooting a 71 for a 12-
under-par 276 total. Woods became the seventh player to win three Green Jackets and the third player
to successfully defend their title at the Masters. Woods took a two stroke lead with a birdie on the 2nd
hole and never gave it back finishing with a three stroke win for $1,008,000. Finishing in second place
was Retief Goosen with a final round 74 for a 9-under-par 279 total. Goosen fell out of the lead with a
bogey on the 1st hole and never recovered. Phil Mickelson took third place with a 71 for an 8-under-par
280 and $380,800. Finishing in fourth place was Jose Maria Olazabal with a consecutive 71 for a 281
while Ernie Els and Padraig Harrington finished one stroke back in fifth place. Vijay Singh took seventh
place after a final round 76 for a 283 while Sergio Garcia finished a stroke back in eighth place with a
284. Ninth place was shared by Angel Cabrera, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Adam Scott with 3-under-par
285s nine strokes off the lead.
