| Tom Fazio's second layout, the Ocean North course, opened in 1993 to similar accolades, and was rated as One of the Top 10 New Resort Courses for 1993 by Golf Magazine. Fashioned in fine Scottish links tradition, this | Fazio design meanders back and forth along an elevated plateau situated high above the deep-blue Pacific. On the distant ocean, crisp white sails snap in the breeze as yachts carve the blue Pacific water. |
Ocean North elevations vary by as much as 300 feet, to create expansive vistas and diverse shot values. Natural vegetation covers canyons and hillsides stopping short of the fairways and greens. The signature hole, number 17, is aptly named Gut Check, plays from elevated tees to a narrow fairway, with a long uphill, cross-canyon carry not for the faint-hearted. After a satisfying day on the golf course, players retire to the comfort of Pelican Hill's Santa Barbara mission-style clubhouse, reminiscent of an elegance and mood of the California rancho era. |
