In the final round of the 2000 US Open Championship Tiger Woods once again showed the golf world
why he is considered by most to be the greatest player in the history of the game. He shot a bogey-free
4-under-par 67 for a 72 hole total of 12-under-par 272 and the win. Woods became the fifth wire-to-wire
winner and the first player to finish 72 holes at double digits under par in the history of the Open.

Woods' 272 total tied the lowest score ever in the US Open (for a 72 hole format) set by Jack Nicklaus in
1980. His 4-under 67, the best score of the day, earned him his 3rd major championship and $800,000.
The tournament was Tiger's hundredth professional start and he won the 100th US Open. He is also the
first player to win the US Junior Amateur, US Amateur, and the US Open. He dominated the best player's
on the tour on one of the world's toughest courses, from the beginning to the end.

Finishing in second place were Ernie Els, who has two US Open titles, and Miguel Angel Jimenez who were
at 3-over-par 287. Jimenez shot a final round of 71 while Els shot a 72 and they both earned $390,150.
The finish was the second time that Els finished in second place in a major this year. Finishing
alone in 4th place was John Huston with final round 70 for a total of 4-over-par 288 and $212,779. Fifth
place went to Padraig Harringtion and Lee WestWood at 5-over-par 289 for $162,526. Faldo, with his best
play in a major since the 1996 British Open, finished eighteen strokes off the lead with a 6-over-par 290
for $137,203. Eighth place went to Stewart Cink, David Duval, and Loren Roberts with 7-over-par 291s for
$112,766. The television broadcast of the Open showed third round ratings up 23% over last year.
