Hill Golf Club. The winners received $100,000 and a 2001 Hyundai XG300 each while the losers received
$50,000 each. The match consisted of four teams from the PGA Tour, four teams from the Senior PGA
Tour and four teams from the LPGA Tour, who played on Saturday and Sunday. The winners from each
tour and the losers from Saturday's contest were matched up to compete on Sunday.
In Saturday's Hyundai Team PGA Matches Fred Couples and Mark Calcavecchia defeated Steve Flesch
and Jean Van de Velde 4 to 3. Couples and Calcavecchia shot nine birdies over 15 holes. Tom Lehman
and Duffy Waldorf beat Phil Mickelson and Rocco Mediate 6 to 5. In the Senior matches Jack Nicklaus
and Tom Watson beat Gary McCord and John Jacobs 4 to 3. Nicklaus and Watson, who have never lost
a team match event, shot ten birdies in their round in a streak over their last four holes. Bruce Fleisher
and David Graham beat Dana Quigley and Allen Doyle 2-up. In the LPGA matches Dottie Pepper and Juli
Inkster defeated Grace Park and Kelli Kuehne 4 to 3. Pepper and Inkster's push for their fourth straight
title in this event was assisted by Pepper's 6-foot birdie putts on the 10th and 14th to end the battle on
the 15th. Annika Sörenstam and Lorie Kane beat Meg Mallon and Beth Daniel.
In Sunday's final PGA matches Duffy Waldorf and Tom Lehman shot eleven birdies to beat defending
champions Fred Couples and Mark Calcavecchia 1-up. Waldorf sunk a 5-foot birdie on the second hole
of the playoff to give he and Tom Lehman the win. Steve Flesch and Jean Van de Velde defeated Phil
Mickelson and Rocco Mediate for third place. In the Senior's round on Sunday the defending champions,
Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, beat Bruce Fleisher and David Graham 4 to 2. Nicklaus and Watson were
able to card eight birdies to increase their team match winning streak to eight. In the third place battle
Dana Quigley and Allen Doyle defeated Gary McCord and John Jacobs. In the LPGA matches Juli Inkster
and Dottie Pepper defeated Annika Sörenstam and Lorie Kane on the 21st hole. Pepper sank an 8-foot
birdie putt on the third playoff hole for she and Inkster's fourth consecutive match play win. In the battle
for third place Beth Daniel and Meg Mallon beat Grace Park and Kelli Kuehne 6 to 4.
