The $1.2 million 2001 Hyundai Team Matches were held
at the par-70 Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point
California. PGA player's played the course at 6,582 yards;
Senior PGA member's at 6,542 and LPGA golfers at 6,094
yards. The winning teams on each tour earned $100,000
and a 2001 Hyundai XG300 for each partner while the 2nd
place finishers earned $50,000 each, third place $30,000
each and fourth place $20,000. The match consisted of 4
teams who played on Saturday and Sunday. The winners
and losers from Saturday's match competed on Sunday.

In Saturday's matches Tom Lehman and Duffy Waldorf
beat Joe Durant and Skip Kendall eight to six. Lehman
shot 3 birdies and Waldorf 5 to create the shortest match
in tournament history. Mark Calcavecchia and Fred Couples
defeated Steve Flesch and David Toms five to four to set
up the Sunday match between the Lehman/Waldorf and
Couples/Calcavecchia teams. In the Senior matches Tom
Watson and Andy North defeated Arnold Palmer and Bruce
Fleisher five to three. Watson had a 60 foot chip on the
third hole for an eagle and also chipped in for a birdie on
the 7th. In the LPGA matches Grace Park and Wendy Ward
defeated Juli Inkster and Dottie Pepper 1-up. Ward sunk a
1.5 foot birdie putt on the final hole to earn her team the
win. Lorie Kane and Janice Moodie defeated Kelly Robbins
and Karrie Webb two to one.

Mark Calcavecchia and Fred Couples on the 9th

In Sunday's PGA matches Mark Calcavecchia
and Fred Couples defeated the defending
champions Tom Lehman and Duffy Waldorf
1-up. Waldorf sunk an eagle putt on the
12th hole to bring the deficit to 1-up then
Lehman birdied the 13th to even the match
until Couples sunk a 10-foot birdie putt on
the 17th hole for the victory. Skip Kendall
and Joe Durant defeated Steve Flesch and
David Toms for third place. In the Senior's
Matches Allen Doyle and Dana Quigley beat
Andy North and Tom Watson. Doyle sunk a
20 foot chip on the 3rd hole of the playoff
for the 1-up victory. In the battle for third
place Bruce Fleisher and Arnold Palmer beat
Tom Kite and Gary McCord. In the LPGA
matches Lorie Kane and Janice Moodie beat
Grace Park and Wendy Ward five to four in only fourteen holes.
