Evergreen Woodland and Interior Chaparral biotic communities join together on the ridges and in valleys of the Payson area, forming unique lifezones with towering Ponderosa Pine, Utah Juniper, Piñon and One-seed Juniper.

Pringle Manzanita, Emory Oak, Grounsel, Lupine and Western Chokeberry add colors and textures of the chaparral to a unique woodland community forming environment that is home to Gray Fox, Elk, Gray Squirrel,
and the Coues Whitetail Deer in addition to the javelina and bobcat.
Curve-billed Thrasher, and Red-tailed Hawk.

A temperate climate at an elevations of 5000 feet gives the Mogollon Rim country the best of each season: idyllic spring days with 60-70 degree temperatures; summer with nighttime lows some twenty-five degrees cooler than those of the desert
regions below the Rim; a fall with just a hint of briskness and splashes of showy color; and a winters with occasional dustings of light snow.
