The first round of the 2002 Royal Caribbean Classic was canceled due to heavy rain. According to Senior
PGA Tour rules each player must complete a minimum of nine holes to make the round official and the
field did not comply so tournament was cut to 36 holes.

In the rescheduled first round on Saturday Jay Overton shot a 7-under-par 65 for the lead. Overton shot
three birdies in a four hole stretch on his first nine and finished with a total of seven birdies in his round
for a one stroke lead. Second place was shared by John Bland, Bruce Fleisher, Bob Gilder, Dick Mast and
Dana Quigley with 6-under-par 66s. Finishing in the tie for seventh place were George Archer, Walter Hall,
John Jacobs, Tom Kite, Tom Purtzer and Sammy Rachels with 5-under-par 67s.

In Sunday's final round John Jacobs shot a 66 for an 11-under-par 133 total and the win. Jacobs carded
seven birdies in his round and salvaged par after shooting into the water on the final hole for a 1 stroke
win. Finishing in second place were Isao Aoki, Bruce Fleisher and Tom Watson with 10-under-par 134s for
$106,333 apiece. Tom Kite and Jay Overton shared fifth place with 9-under-par 135s while Bob Gilder, Ted
Goin, Walter Hall, Tom Purtzer and Sammy Rachels finished one stroke back in seventh.
