The first round of the 2002 Verizon Classic Mike Hill and Dana Quigley shot 7-under-par 64s to share
the lead. Both Hill and Quigley shot birdies on the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th and 12th holes for their
lead. Finishing in third place one stroke back was Bruce Summerhays with a 6-under-par 65. Tom Kite
and Bruce Fleisher shared fourth place with 66s while Bruce Lietzke and Doug Tewell shared sixth place
one stroke back. Eighth place was shared by John Bland, Jim Colbert, Rodger Davis, Ed Dougherty, Tom
Jenkins, Walter Hall, Graham Marsh, Mark McCumber, Bob Murphy, Jay Sigel, Jack Spradlin, Tom Wargo,
Dave Stockton, Leonard Thompson, Lee Trevino, Bobby Walzel and Fuzzy Zoeller with 3-under-par 68s
four strokes off the lead. The defending champion, Bob Gilder, shot a 2-over-par 73 to finish 9 strokes
off the lead with seven others.

In Saturday's second round Bruce Fleisher took the lead and matched his 36 hole tournament record
with a 65 for an 11-under-par 131 total. Fleisher sunk a 20 foot birdie putt on the 13th hole and a 15
foot birdie putt on the 14th for a total of six birdies in his bogey free round. Tom Kite took second with
a consecutive 66 for a 10-under-par 132 total. Kite made a charge for the lead with birdies on the 11th,
12th and 14th holes but finished with four straight pars. Bruce Summerhays took third place with a 68
for a 9-under-par 133 total while Doug Tewell finished one stroke back in fourth. Fifth place was shared
by Mike Hill and Dana Quigley, the first round leaders, with second round 71s for 7-under-par 135s.
Finishing in seventh place were Roger David and Ed Dougherty both with second round consecutive 68s
for 6-under-par 136 totals. Ninth place was shared by Hugh Baiocchi, John Bland, Tom Jenkins, Bruce
Lietzke, Bob Murphy and Bobby Wadkins with 5-under-par 137s.

In the final round on Sunday Doug Tewell earned his fifth title on the Senior PGA Tour by shooting a 69
for a 10-under-par 203 total. Tewell began his round strong with four birdies over his first seven holes
followed by bogeys on the 16th and 18th holes for a one stroke win over Hale Irwin. Irwin shot a final
round 66 that included six birdies for a 9-under-par 204 total and $132,000. Finishing in 3rd place were
Bruce Fleisher and Dave Stockton with 206s while Tom Kite and Burce Lietzke shared fifth place 1 stroke
back. Seventh place was shared by Mike Hill, Mike McCullough, Mark McCumber, Bruce Summerhays and
Dana Quigley with 5-under-par 208s. Bob Gilder, last year's winner, shot a final round 75 for a 215 total
twelve strokes off the lead.
