In the first round of the 2001 Toshiba Senior Classic Jose Maria Canizares, Bruce Fleisher, Bob Gilder,
Dana Quigley and Dave Stockton shot 6-under-par 65s to share the lead. Quigley shot a bogey free
round of six birdies while Canizares and Stockton shot seven birdies and a bogey. Finishing in sixth
place were Jim Colbert, Hale Irwin and Terry Mauney with 4-under-par 67. Finishing in ninth place was a
group of ten that included Jim Ahern, George Archer, John Bland, Allen Doyle, John Mahaffey, Graham
Marsh, Gil Morgan, John Schroeder, Bruce Summerhays and Lee Trevino with 3-under-par 68s.

In the second round Terry Mauney shot a 63 for a 12-under-par 130 and the lead. Mauney shot a
bogey free round that included six birdies on his back nine for a one stroke lead. Finishing in second
place was Bob Gilder with a second round 66 for an 11-under-par 131. Third place went to Larry Nelson
who shot a second round 63 for a 9-under-par 133 total. Nelson shot a bogey free round of six birdies
and an eagle. Finishing in fourth place were John Bland, Jose Maria Canizares, Tom Kite and Dave
Stockton with 7-under-par 135s. Finishing six strokes off the lead were Bruce Fleisher, Hale Irwin and
Dana Quigley with 6-under-par 136s.

In the final round on Sunday Jose Maria Canizares shot a 67 and Gil Morgan shot a 64 for 11-under-par
202s forcing the playoff. Canizares shot a 24-foot birdie putt on the ninth hole of the sudden death
playoff for the win over Gil Morgan. Canizares won his first Senior Tour event, $210,000 and 210 points
to move into 3rd place in the Charles Schwab Cup race. Gil Morgan took second place and $123,200.
Finishing in third place with a final round 66 was the defending champion, Allen Doyle. John Bland, Hale
Irwin and Dave Stockton shared fourth place with 9-under-par 204s for $69,066 apiece. Finishing in 7th
place were Walter Hall and Larry Nelson with 205s while Lee Trevino took 9th one stroke back. Finishing
in 10th place five strokes off the lead were Tom Kite and Terry Mauney with 6-under-par 207s.
