| In the opening round of the 2002 Siebel Classic Dana Quigley, Tom Wargo, Sammy Rachels and Bob Gilder all shot 5-under-par 67s for a one stroke lead. Wargo shot one bogey and six birdies including one on the 17th and 18th holes for his spot in the lead while Quigley also birdied the 17th and 18th for three birdies in his round. Finishing in fifth place one stroke back were George Archer, Butch Sheehan and Jay Sigel with 4-under 68s. Rodger Davis, John Jacobs, Tom Jenkins, John Mahaffey, Andy North, Tom Purtzer and John Schroeder all shared eighth place with 3-under-par 69s two strokes off the lead. In Saturday's second round Jay Sigel took the lead by shooting a 73 for a 3-under-par 141 total. Sigel shot four birdies in the cold windy conditions for a one stroke lead over George Archer, Ed Dougherty, Bob Gilder and Dana Quigley. Archer shot a second round 74 for his spot while Dougherty shot a 72 and Gilder and Quigley 75s. Sixth place was shared by Tom Wargo and Fuzzy Zoeller with 1-under-par 143s. Wayne Levi, Rocky Thompson and Mike Smith shared eighth place three strokes off the lead with 144s. In the final round Dana Quigley sunk a 10-foot putt for par on his 18th hole for a 1 stroke victory over Bob Gilder and Fuzzy Zoeller. Quigley finished with a 70 for a 4-under-par 212 total and $210,000. He also earned his 6th Senior Tour title and his 6th top 10 finish in eight starts in the 2002 season. Gilder and Zoeller took second place with 3-under-par 213s for $112,000 apiece. Tom Wargo, a first round co- leader, took fourth place with a 71 for a 2-under-par 214 and $84,000. Fifth place was shared by Hale Irwin and John Jacobs with 216s while Vicente Fernandez, Bruce Fleisher, Mike Smith, Rocky Thompson, Bobby Wadkins and Lanny Wadkins finished in seventh place one stroke back. |
