| In the opening round of the 2002 Emerald Coast Classic Dana Quigley shot a 7-under-par 63 for a two stroke lead. Quigley shot one bogey, an eagle on the par-5 7th hole and six birdies in his round to put him enroute to his second straight victory. Finishing in second place was Dave Eichelberger with a hole-in- one on the 190-yard 8th hole for a 5-under-par 65. Fred Gibson took third place with a 4-under-par 66 while Frank Conner, Allen Doyle, Bob Eastwood, Simon Hobday and Larry Nelson finished one stroke back in fourth. Finishing in ninth place were Terry Dill, Vicente Fernandez, Tom Jenkins, Dick Mast, Mike McCullough, Don Pooley, Jimmy Powell, Sammy Rachels, Chi Chi Rodriguez and Jack Spradlin with 68s. In Friday's second round Dave Eichelberger took the lead with a consecutive 65 for a 10-under-par 130 total. Eichelberger played his first nine in 3-under-par by shooting birdies on the 2nd and 4th holes, a bogey on the 5th and two more birdies followed by his second nine in 2-under. Doug Tewell took second place with a 63 for an 8-under-par 132 total. Tewell putted very well with six birdies of 10 feet or longer. Lanny Wadkins took third place with a 63 for a 6-under-par 134 total while Hubert Green finished one stroke back in fourth. Fifth place was shared by Tom Jenkins, Dale Douglass and Dana Quigley with 4- under 136s. John Bland, Frank Conner, Allen Doyle, Vicente Fernandez, Joe Inman, John Jacobs, Bob Eastwood and Dick Mast all shared eighth place with 3-under-par 137s. The final round was canceled after rain stopped play for over two hours causing the scores to revert back to the 36 hole totals. Dave Eichelberger earned his sixth Senior PGA Tour victory and $217,500 by four strokes. Eichelberger's win was his first since August of 1999 and was highlighted by his hole-in-one on the 8th hole during Friday's opening round. |
