| Friday's opening round at the Pelican Marsh Golf Club in Naples, Florida found PGA Senior Tour rookie Lanny Wadkins a single stroke behind leaders Jim Thorpe and Dana Quigley after firing an impressive 7-under 75 in his inaugural Senior Tour event. The second round on Saturday finished with first round leaders Jim Thorpe and Dana Quigley in a log jam atop the leaderboard with Dave Eisenberger, Jose Maria Canizares of Spain and Walter Hall all tied at 9-under-par 135. Tom Watson, Larry Nelson and John Jacobs were among a group a stroke behind. Sunday's final round was a virtual free-for-all with a spectacular charge by Lanny Wadkins in his debut on the Senior Tour. Wadkins shot an 8-under 64 to tie the course record for a single round and to end the regulation round in a four-way tie with Walter Hall, Jose Maria Canizares and Tom Watson. Hall was eliminated on the first hole in the sudden-death playoff and Watson's bogey on the second proved his undoing. At the third hole par was enough for Lanny Wadkins as Jose Maria Canizares found the water after landing in a bunker after his drive. |
