| The year 2000 marks the inaugural event for the Audi Senior Classic. In the first round of the Audi Senior Classic the lead was shared by Hubert Green and Jim Ahern with 7-under-par 65s. In third place was Jim Colbert, Bill Brask, and John Bland who shot 5-under-par 67s. Jay Sigel and Dave Stockton with 4-under-par 68s topped a six-player group. Last weeks winner of the Toshiba Senior Classic, Allen Doyle, finished in fifth with a 70. After today's second round Jim Colbert and Jose Maria Canizares were tied for the lead at 11-under-par 133s. Canizares played excellent on the back nine with six birdies and a-bogey-free 9-under-par 63 to record the best round of the tournament. In second place two shots behind the leaders were first-round co-leader Hubert Green, Doug Tewell and John Bland with 9-under-par 135s. Three shots behind in a four way tie was Allen Doyle, Terry Dill, Walt Morgan, and Dean Overturf. Jim Ahern the other first round leader had fallen into a tie for 10th place with a 7-under-par 137. The final round Sunday went to Hubert Green with a 10-under-par 62 and three round total of 19-under- par 197. Green finished with 11 birdies and only one bogey to earn $225,000. Green, the 1977 US Open winner, the 1985 PGA champion, and a 19-time PGA Tour winner, matched the lowest score of his career with an 8-under-par 62. Jim Colbert, Doug Tewell, and Dean Overturf were tied for second five strokes behind with 14-under-par 202s. In next week's tournament Hubert Green and Gil Morgan will defend their title at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf. |
