| The Wolf Creek course was designed by Dennis and John Rider using nature as their guide. No drawings were used to design the golf course holes before construction began, just a mental sketch in Dennis' head. Dennis worked alongside the buldozers and tractors each day, thus allowing the land to design the course. The result was a golf experience that surpasses most existing courses while retaining natural desert landscape. Golf course design, at its highest levels, requires a wide variety of club selection and numerous shot challenges to play, and Wolf Creek at Paradise Canyon is certainly no exception to the rule, with shot making challenges that bring every club out of the bag. The extreme measures Dennis and Jon Rider took to build Wolf Creek without disturbing natural desert terrain, sandstone cliffs and native flora and fauna is evident everywhere one looks. Grass was grown from turf rather than seeds and the Riders kept heavy machinery off the grass by filling the bunkers with sand flown in by helicopter. They worked to ensure proper handling of the area's wildlife which includes coyote, jackrabbit, roadrunner, desert tortoise, and chipmonk. These extra precautions pushed costs on the Wolf Creek project to around $50 million, but created a unique world-class golf environment. |
